Instant Ramen Recipe

Lusting for a quick, convenient meal, instant ramen can be revisited as a chopstick version of a gourmet meal, using only a few additional ingredients. Following is a recipe to upgrade your ordinary ramen package into a delicious and fulfilling meal.

Ingredients

  • One packet of instant ramen (flavor of your choice)
  • 2 cups water (or broth for extra flavor)
  • One egg
  • 415 g vegetables (e.g., spinach, bok choy, carrots, green onion).
  • 1/4 cup cooked protein (optional: shredded chicken, tofu, or shrimp)
  • One teaspoon of soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Optional toppings: Optional toppings:
  • Chilli flakes or chili oil
  • Sesame seeds
  • Nori (seaweed) strips
  • Lime wedge

Instructions

Prepare the Base:

Put 2 cups (or approximately a pot of water) in a container and heat to boiling. Place the noodles in a bowl and cook according to the side. If the user wants the noodles to be more complicated, they can be cooked for a shorter time.

Add Flavor:

Add seasoning package included in the ramen. For enhanced flavor, add soy sauce and sesame oil. Adjust quantities to suit your taste.

Cook the Egg:

Poached Egg: Crack the egg into the simmering broth and cook for 2–3 min, that is, without agitation, for a soft yolk.

Beaten Egg: Beat an egg in a glass to slowly stir the egg into boiling broth as the broth is continuously stirred to create an egg ribbon.

Add Vegetables and Protein:

To the last 1–2 min of cooking (as needed). Leafy greens (e.g., spinach or bok choy) are cooked in a few minutes, and vegetables with opaque flesh (e.g., carrots) must be sliced as thinly as possible because of the long cooking time.

Serve and Garnish:

Provide ramen in a bowl and prompt the user to add toppings of their choice. Hot chili may be added as a flavor surprise, chili flakes may be added to introduce the chili taste, sesame seeds may be added for a mouthfeel, and nori can be added as a topping to introduce the taste of umami. A squeeze of lime can add a refreshing tang.

Tips for Customization

Spicy Ramen: (Please add a dash of chili paste, sriracha or chili oil for more spice).

Creamy Ramen: Stir in a tablespoon of peanut butter or a dollop of coconut milk for a creamy, decadent broth.

Cheesy Ramen: Cheese can be grated, put into and steeped in the broth as a next comfort.

Miso Ramen: Add 1 tsp miso paste (a taste note that is both flavourful and umami taste).

Conclusion

Simply adding a few hidden ingredients, the art of instant ramen rises from a simple snack to a complete, flavorful meal. No matter how pressed for time or if you are craving comfort food, this recipe can be repeated and very satisfying.
